This small-group horseback riding day tour takes place at our family-run Icelandic horse breeding farm in South Iceland. After meeting your guide in the riding hall and preparing for departure, horses are selected according to rider experience and confidence before setting out as a group into the countryside.

With several hours in the saddle, the route extends further across farmland and natural terrain between Selfoss and Flúðir. The longer duration allows riders to settle into a steady rhythm, experience sustained stretches of tölt, and explore varied landscapes shaped by daily farm life.

Tour Description

The small-group day tour is suited for riders with solid prior experience who are comfortable riding independently for extended periods. The extended format allows the group to cover greater distances at a confident pace while maintaining a structured and supervised departure.

A planned break allows both horses and riders to rest before continuing the route. Depending on conditions and the group’s experience level, pacing may vary throughout the ride.

Although this is a shared departure, group sizes remain limited to ensure attentive supervision. Riding takes place within an authentic agricultural landscape rather than a purpose-built tourism environment.

Please arrive 15 minutes before your scheduled tour time.

What to Expect

  • You will meet your guide and fellow riders at the riding hall for a safety briefing and preparation. Helmets are mandatory and provided. Riders must be confident in mounting, steering, and controlling their horse independently.

  • Horses are selected based on rider ability and endurance. Our Icelandic horses are responsive, steady, and well-suited for longer routes.

  • The ride travels deeper into the countryside surrounding the farm, across open farmland and natural terrain between Selfoss and Flúðir. Sustained stretches of tölt and varied pacing are common, depending on rider ability and conditions.

  • A planned break allows both horses and riders to rest before continuing the route.

  • After returning to the stable area, there is time to dismount safely and reflect on the experience with your guide.

Why Ride at Vorsabær II

Vorsabær II is a working Icelandic horse breeding farm in South Iceland, not a high-volume riding stable. Horses are bred, raised, and trained on the farm, and riding experiences take place alongside daily farm life rather than in a commercial riding center.
