Riding Tours & Farm Visits
-
The Icelandic horse is known for its calm temperament, strong build, and the unique four-beat gait called Tölt. Bred in isolation for centuries, the breed has become an important part of Icelandic culture and rural life.
Despite their compact size, Icelandic horses are strong and sure-footed. Their steady character makes them particularly suitable for both beginners and experienced riders.
-
Vorsabær 2 is first and foremost a breeding farm, home to approximately 100 Icelandic horses, with around 15 foals born each summer.
Many of the horses used for tours are bred and trained here. We know their temperament, training history, and development well. Guests ride horses that are part of our long-term breeding and training program - not anonymous riding school horses.
Rides begin in our stable, where you are introduced to your horse and receive instruction before departure. Tours are intentionally small and conducted in the natural surroundings of a working farm.
-

-
Our tours are suitable for beginners, families, riders returning after a break, and experienced riders who appreciate well-trained Icelandic horses.
We speak with each guest before riding and match you with a horse suited to your experience and confidence level.
-
Yes. The 1-Hour Tour is well suited for first-time riders. Most guests with reasonable balance and mobility do very well.
If you prefer a shorter or more introductory experience, the Ride in Riding Hall may be appropriate.
-
Many guests arrive with limited experience. We introduce you to your horse gradually and ensure you feel comfortable before leaving the stable. You are never pressured to ride faster than you wish.
-
Riders should have reasonable balance and be comfortable sitting in a saddle for the duration of the tour. Longer tours require greater stamina and confidence.
If you feel unsure, we recommend starting with the 1-Hour Tour.
-
If you are in good physical condition and feel comfortable in a saddle, a longer tour can be appropriate. For the Day Tour, riders should feel confident riding at a pace faster than walking.
-
As a breeding farm, we place strong emphasis on training quality and rideability. Our horses are regularly worked to remain responsive, balanced, and comfortable in Tölt.
On longer tours, and particularly on Private Tours, we may occasionally change horses to allow experienced riders to feel different temperaments and movement qualities.
-
For the well-being of our horses, the maximum rider weight is 110 kg.
-
For safety reasons, pregnant guests may not participate in riding tours. You are very welcome to visit the farm and stables instead.
-
All tours begin at a walk. If the group is balanced and comfortable, we may increase the pace and introduce Tölt.
The overall speed is always adjusted to the least experienced rider in the group.
-
We recommend:
Warm layers suitable for the season
Gloves
Sturdy footwear with a small heel or secure boot
Waterproof clothing if rain is expected
We provide approved riding helmets and necessary equipment. Rainwear is not provided. Backpacks and large bags are not permitted during the tour.
-
Small items such as a phone may be carried in secure pockets. We cannot accept responsibility for lost or damaged personal items during the tour.
We are happy to assist with taking photos during the tour when possible.
-
To protect Iceland’s horses from imported disease:
Clothing must be washed at 40°C or dry-cleaned
Riding boots and helmets must be disinfected at least 5 days before arrival
Used leather tack and certain equipment may not be imported
Full guidelines are available at www.mast.is.
-
Yes. We ride year-round. Conditions are always assessed carefully, and safety is the priority. In severe weather, tours may be cancelled and guests notified as soon as possible.
-
Icelandic weather is variable. Tours operate in rain, wind, and snow unless conditions become unsafe. We recommend dressing accordingly.
-
Farm visits provide insight into daily life on an Icelandic breeding farm. Guests meet the horses and other livestock and learn about breeding, training, and rural traditions.
Advance booking is required so we can prepare for your visit.
